The good the bad and the Banker

Dissatisfaction brings negativity to those who are consumed by the feeling that they are less paid then there potential. And dissatisfaction is usually seen among bankers across the world but today we’ll see Public Sector Bank Employees, Although they work like Men but hope to be paid like Poseidon.(chuckles)

Synopsis
Let us first know what is the picture of Public Sector Banks in current scenario, from the definition itself Public Sector Banks(PSB’s) are basically listed Public companies with a major share 51% is owned by government of India ,namely State Bank of India, Bank of Baroda, Canara Bank are among top leading PSB’s .They are providing food and supper to almost 2 million people and their families. PSB’s account for more than 75% of deposits and almost same percentage of advances of the whole banking sector in India.

Position Among the Best!
Despite being banker to 1.2 Billion people of whom 800 million are below 35 years of age PSB’s lack far behind in global rankings. This position Globally is like we have only played international level of cricket and have made a propaganda on political enigma.

 The Problem:-
As Sunny Deol said in Border Movie said “life’s second name is Problem!” same goes with banks, but actually problem is not with just targets on balance sheet and annoying customers its actually way more complex, here are some:-
·        Oh yes! Technology , being technologically advanced is some other thing many of the bankers don’t even know how to send email’s or do some simple troubleshooting of their system’s instead attaching a file to email is a nightmare and the fun fact is these guys know how torrent works ;). To make things worse people hardly shuts down there systems before leaving the branch which adds to the exchequer’s cost in form of power bills,
·        The feeling that you are going to get paid no matter what ! is like the worst of it all, If someone  in branch is not doing shit and scrolling the facebook on her Smartphone  she’ll be still getting equally paid like the officer or clerk who is working like machine throughout the day.
·        Bank Union’s don’t even deserve to have more than a line (pity).
·        The central government employee salary adds always to the worries, just to explain this in 80’s salary of an IAS officer and bank officer was same but now it’s like comparing
Mt Everest with Paharganj ( which is not even a real mountain :P).
·        Inconsistent Transfers to anywhere in India is also a big drawback here. Don’t know who are there sitting at HR department of these century old banks but all they are doing is sending a Bihari to Tamil Nadu and making a Marathi try to live with his family in Panipat and if there is a request to get a transfer to home state it’s like asking for marijuana in a prohibited country. Honestly by the time you’ll get a transfer you’ll be in your 40’s.

BE POSITIVE

But Still 5 million graduates apply for Bank PO and clerk exams  and the number is growing each year irrespective of bad advertisement and negativities haunting PSB’s.Just like the 3 guys in the PIcture happy to be in Bank many of them are totally satisfied and excited for every day at work. All in all these institutions are not here to work for just profits but for the greater good of society ,to prove this PSB’s were the most active during PMJDY campaign and opened 95% of Jan Dhan accounts and they never asked for a single dime for there voluntary campaign and enthusiastic participation.Secondly PSB’s have the deepest penetration in India’s rural areas, we are face of banking to the rural folk, thirdly we are the cheapest bankers at globally there are no hidden costs and unwanted charges in our products .
I believe there is a bright future of PSB’s in coming years , who knows PSB’s might dominate Banking industry globally , all they need is a better hand at satisfying both the customer and employees and to be technologically  friendly and more expressive with branch designing .Better pay’s and infrastructure can do wonders for these great and vital institutions of India. As a banker myself I feel Banking is more than counting notes, printing DD’s, making FD’s and advancing loans to individuals and corporate its about selling faith and hope  to anyone who comes at the door of a bank with a purpose to workout with greatest earning a man can earn with his labour “MONEY”.
